Contact Lenses

We understand that not every contact lens is for every patient. We are committed to taking the time to assess your individual visual needs, your desires, and your ocular health, and fit you in the most appropriate and comfortable contact lenses. We have successfully helped many patients who had been unsuccessful in the past or who had previously been told they were not a contact lens candidate. Our practice utilizes corneal topography technology and carries one of the largest collections of contact lens fitting sets for soft contact lenses, toric contact lenses, color contact lenses, multifocal contact lenses, and gas permeable contact lenses. Whether you want to wear contact lenses for convenience and a glasses-free look, or for a medical condition like keratoconus, we can select and/or design the right contact lenses for you.

We are dedicated to helping you find the best vision and comfort with contact lenses for your particular eye condition. We are the only practice in Orange County to use anterior segment OCT technology to help with the fitting of both scleral and hybrid contact lenses. We use the latest Zeiss topographer and aberrometer to help assess your corneal condition and design contact lenses custom fit for your needs. We are not limited to just one type or brand of lens. Dr. Austin has access to the latest in contact lens technology including scleral, hybrid, gas permeable, and disposable lens designs.

For those who have particular complexity to their vision or eyes, we offer a level of care that is unsurpassed. Dr. Austin is dedicated to finding the best contact lens solutions to challenging problems, such as:

Multifocal lenses:

Those requiring bifocals or reading glasses can benefit from new contact lens technology, such as multi-focal lenses, monovision, and more complex options. We will tailor a solution specific to your lifestyle and needs.

Keratoconus care:

We offer keratoconus care including decision making for contact lenses or surgery.

Contact lenses following surgical complications or injuries:

Irregular astigmatism is created on the eye following some surgical complications and injuries. Often, it cannot be completely corrected with glasses or subsequent surgeries. However, using gas-permeable contact lenses and more advanced designs, a tear layer is introduced to the ocular surface that neutralizes irregular astigmatism.

Dry eye care for mild to extremely severe:

Eye allergies, computer use, and environmental factors all produce dry eye that can be successfully treated when diagnosed properly. Dr. Austin is committed to providing the most updated treatment options for their patients with dry eyes. These may involve medication, plugs that prevent moisture from leaving the eyelids, a regimen of hot compresses and artificial tears, and optimizing contact lens materials. Dr. Austin will work with you to find the strategy that may work best for you.

Gas-permeable (GP) corneal lenses:

GP lenses can be used to correct a host of corneal irregularities, high prescriptions, aphakia, and high astigmatism. They range in size from around 2/3 the size of the cornea to overlapping the sclera (semi-scleral lenes). With a deep understanding of how they work, Dr. Austin will explain your options with these lenses in a concise yet understandable manner.
